Seminole County Information |
| |
|

Seminole County,
Florida is made up of seven major cities, each
of which offers its own unique appeal to
vacationers and sports and business travelers
alike. Whether you're here for a leisurely
getaway, a sports tournament or have a few hours
to spare between meetings, Seminole County,
Florida offers an array of activities to help
you spend your free time as relaxing or
adventurous as you like. The development of
Seminole County began around the scenic 342-mile
St. Johns River, a major artery into Central
Florida from the East Coast. Today, evidence of
Florida’s wilderness beginnings, prehistoric
Native American culture, early speculators and
settlers, Civil War citizens, and heyday as a
bustling rail and steamboat hub have been
carefully preserved. You can explore numerous
museums that paint a remarkable picture of this
colorful past. Or step back in time with a
walking tour of hundreds of buildings listed on
the national Historic register in Sanford and
Longwood. You can even stay in one of these
homes that serves as an inn, such as the Higgins
House Bed & Breakfast, and experience gracious
Victorian living just as it was, complete with
high tea on the upstairs veranda. Other
historical diversions include a game of baseball
at the historic Sanford Stadium, or combine a
picnic in the park with a visit to The Senator,
a 3,500 year-old Bald Cypress tree and the
county’s oldest living citizen. |
