Mortgage Modification Service Scams
Homeowners should avoid using mortgage modification services. Many of these companies offer no real service and charge high upfront fees. For most homeowners this service is generally unnecessary because most mortgage lenders have an inhouse department than handles mortgage modifications for the homeowner at no cost.
If you choose to use a modification service do your homework and check out the company thoroughly before paying any fees. Under Florida Law F.S. 501.1377 most companies may not charge an upfront fee for modification services and they must have a written contract spelling out the terms of the service and are required to give a 3 day right of rescission.
